From March to October, Appelboom invites 5 artists in residence per year. Periods of residency (from 15 days to 2 months) change according to the project of each artist.
Appelboom particularly focuses on the link between the artistic project and the territory. We are thus opened on every approach that fits with the characteristics provided by the environment, the landscape, the inhabitants...
The association favors cross-disciplinary projects and invites artists with various practices: architects, designers, visual artists, landscape gardeners, video-makers…
Our residencies offer to artists the possibility to continue their artistic process, to develop researches and experimentations in a context of dialogue, exchange, encounters and network.
Each residency issues in a public presentation of the work produced.
Calls for proposals are issued. Artists are selected by a committee composed of artists, members of the association and of the local contemporary art network…

For the residencies of 2009, proposals should be sent before the 15th of November.
In 2009, Appelboom has chosen 2 different main lines for its residencies:
Sound art (1 residencie/year):
This line is addressed to artists whose work is concerned with territory using sound media (music, sound installation, cross-disciplinary project).
Download the descriptive form and the specific conditions required. (pdf)
Every artistic field (2 residencies/year)
This second line is more widely opened to young artists who look for the right conditions to develop their artistic proposition in relationship with the territory.

The Russian artist Olga Kisseleva devotes most of her work to the tensions and the frustrations of the Occidental way of life. Her installations, photographs, films and paintings, deal with the mix of cultures, the mix of languages, of new technologies, of the shifting of social relationships and they leave us with a feeling of bewilderment.
The Limousin region is looked at as a rural and green territory, where nature and the environment have been preserved throughout the two last centuries from globalisation and from the technologic and industrial growth. However, in spite of appearances, this area has not completely escaped from the post-industrial colonisation, this global crusade lead by multinational companies to spread their brands and leave their markers all over the territory, to colour it in their own way.
The presentation of June, 14th will be an opportunity for Olga Kisseleva to invite the inhabitants of this territory to indulge into the creative process she will set up during the last period of her residence. She will try to determine the impact this colonisation has on the inhabitants of rural areas of the Limousin region.

Kerwin Rolland is at the same time an engineer, a musician, a composer, an electro-acoustician and a visual artist. Through his systems, his scenographies and his settings, he questions the encounter of electro-vibratory systems, a place and its dwellers.
Kerwin Rolland invites the inhabitants of the Plateau de Millevaches to talk about listening spots dear to them, be they agreeable or not, imaginary or real. He works on words and offers a typology of a territory rarely represented, that of sound perception. He activates the memory of sounds, sometimes coming from the past.
Presented as maps, the results of his interviews will be published daily in the newspaper L’Echo. These maps draw links between geographical spots and word groups mentioning sound sensations related to the landscape. They are based on an intimate reading of sound landscapes.
Kerwin Rolland also invites you to share a friendly evening where he will present the work completed during his residence.

Following the format of the travel journal, Jacques Loeuille creates his films with bits and pieces, looks, words, in which journeys, narratives and micro-narratives clash with one another through a set-up of images that expel each other, stick together, dig up, squeak or snigger…
His videos explore journeys, routes and pill up small pieces of narratives that tie together the smallness of movements and the fragile aspect of perception. He leads his researches through the relationships existing between image and speech, legend and sign.
In this project, Jacques Loeuille intends to put the narrative of a memory, of an experience or of a recollected sensation at the very heart of the landscape, thus insisting on the « spoken » dimension of a country.
Every projection, in partnership with local cinemas, will grant spectators the opportunity to meet with the artist. A film realized by another artist and chosen by Jacques Loeuille will follow each projection.
